FYI ...

For those who care or are interested, book related info is behind the cut. Everyone else, feel free to ignore.

Some of you might be aware I've gone and written a book - and yes, of course it's about Alexander the Great. Release date is fast approaching (trust me, when you're faced with the threat of last minute rewrites, it is VERY fast approaching) and I can now give you some information on the whole what, where and when thing.

The title of the book is The Lion's Cub by L Speight (that's me) and it is published by HarperCollins NZ and HarperCollins Australia. Availability in the northern hemisphere is an unknown at this point, but given that in this current internet savvy era you can buy almost anything from almost anywhere, anyone who actually wants a copy will find a way. Release date is set for 11/8/06, all going to plan, and there is an ISBN but I can't be bothered finding the paperwork for that right now so let's just let that slide for now, okay?

Right, enough trumpet-blowing from me. Catch you later.

Novel or History?

And Amazon dot anyxhere, here I come!!!!

[identity profile] 3scoremiles-10.livejournal.com 2006-04-09 06:15 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, sorry, should have said. Historical fiction. I'm not qualified for the serious stuff. ;)

[identity profile] arysteia.livejournal.com 2006-04-09 07:03 am (UTC)(link)
This is actually very exciting. You can be nonchalant all you want, but I don't believe you. I get an autographed copy, right? And a drunken read through with good champagne?

[identity profile] 3scoremiles-10.livejournal.com 2006-04-09 08:08 am (UTC)(link)
I am not being nonchalent. Any calm you sense is totally fake. I am quietly freaking out on the inside.

No, seriously. And the champagne thing definately sounds like a good call.

[identity profile] arysteia.livejournal.com 2006-04-09 08:12 am (UTC)(link)
It's a date then. :-D

[identity profile] susa-938.livejournal.com 2006-04-09 08:47 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, good - the ritual burning of Manfredi draws ever near!

Well - the ISBN I found, for those who like to know these things, is 1-86950-596-4; price $36.99 in NZ.

And I agree - it is very exciting. Now freak out all you like, but keep blowing the trumpet; this is going to be the best Alexander and Hephaistion novel since...well, since Renault (and that's not meant to be an insult).

And wish I could be there for an autographed copy and drunken read-through with champagne. *sigh*

[identity profile] 3scoremiles-10.livejournal.com 2006-04-09 10:31 am (UTC)(link)
Or, you know, we could just skip to the alcohol right now.

Please?

;)

[identity profile] 3scoremiles-10.livejournal.com 2006-04-09 10:35 am (UTC)(link)
Huh. So, no pressure there then ...

*scuttles off to argue with rewrites some more*

[identity profile] susa-938.livejournal.com 2006-04-09 12:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Huh. So, no pressure there then ...

Ermmm....well, that was my version of taking the pressure off and reassuring you....I'm obviously not very good at it! You know what I think anyway, so I'll shut up, and let you tussle with those last minute rewrites (more rewrites?).

And you obviously don't suck at titles either.

[identity profile] qaddafi.livejournal.com 2006-04-09 12:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd heard about this on the grapevine, but the confirmation is still making me ecstatic! It's not too early to reserve a copy, is it? (And, no, it won't be a problem to order it overseas.

I'm impressed on so many levels. Being about a month from submitting a manuscript of my own, I'm in awe of you. Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't HarperCollins only accept agented manuscripts? (Of course, if you got an agent first, the question is moot.) Or maybe they're nicer down there. Oh well, I'm sure your book will be the best Alexander historical fiction ever, and I'll be your fangirl :)

[identity profile] 3scoremiles-10.livejournal.com 2006-04-09 02:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I think NZ is one of the few places where you can get away without using a literary agent for this sort of stuff. It means you're shooting blind of course, hoping that someone will pick your work out of the slush pile, but blind ignorance and chance can be good like that.

Good luck with your submission, hope it works out.

[identity profile] 3scoremiles-10.livejournal.com 2006-04-09 03:12 pm (UTC)(link)
(more rewrites?)

Until they prise it from my cold dead hands.

Or, more properly, until they do the first type-set and it gets cast in stone. Well, ink. You know what I mean. ;)

That's the best news I've had in a long time. I cannot wait. And thank God for the internet so I won't have to wait forever in the UK.

Good luck with the last minute panic. And thank you for remembering to let us all know the date.

The day I receive the book I'll buy a bottle of champayne and drink to you and your baby.

Big, big congratulations darling, enjoy it all.

Hmmm.

What could I possibly say?

Nicolas.

I'm off school in four days...

Re: Hmmm.

[identity profile] 3scoremiles-10.livejournal.com 2006-04-09 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
There's a copy with your name on it already.

[identity profile] 3scoremiles-10.livejournal.com 2006-04-09 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
The panic levels fluctuate. I'll manage. ;)

[identity profile] 3scoremiles-10.livejournal.com 2006-04-09 09:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Sounds promising. I'll check my roster.

[identity profile] trampadoo.livejournal.com 2006-04-09 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Could there be anything better than the author you always thought should write a novel actually did it (did that made any sense..?). And above all things about Alexander? I'll keep my fingers crossed and I can't wait to get my hands on a copy! :D

it is.....

122 days, 21 hours, 31 minutes and 21 seconds until Friday, August 11, 2006

Very happy tidings!

[identity profile] coraldawn.livejournal.com 2006-04-10 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
Wonderful news. "The Lion's Cub" huh? Sounds very promising. How old will the cub be by book's end?
Looking forward to getting my hands on a copy at the earliest. The thought of the first three-dimensional Hephaistion makes me break out in little giggles of joy .....

And don't panic! Start writing the next part of the trilogy - unless you've already done it! :)

Re: it is.....

[identity profile] 3scoremiles-10.livejournal.com 2006-04-10 03:50 am (UTC)(link)
122 days, huh? It doesn't sound so bad when you put it like that.

Re: Very happy tidings!

[identity profile] 3scoremiles-10.livejournal.com 2006-04-10 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
The cub will be around 20 (not to give too much away) and part 2 is pretty much in the can. Part 3, on the other hand ... argh.

[identity profile] 3scoremiles-10.livejournal.com 2006-04-10 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks. By the way, your icon? Loving the dancing dildos. ;)
