For those who care or are interested, book related info is behind the cut. Everyone else, feel free to ignore.
Some of you might be aware I've gone and written a book - and yes, of course it's about Alexander the Great. Release date is fast approaching (trust me, when you're faced with the threat of last minute rewrites, it is VERY fast approaching) and I can now give you some information on the whole what, where and when thing.
The title of the book is The Lion's Cub by L Speight (that's me) and it is published by HarperCollins NZ and HarperCollins Australia. Availability in the northern hemisphere is an unknown at this point, but given that in this current internet savvy era you can buy almost anything from almost anywhere, anyone who actually wants a copy will find a way. Release date is set for 11/8/06, all going to plan, and there is an ISBN but I can't be bothered finding the paperwork for that right now so let's just let that slide for now, okay?
Right, enough trumpet-blowing from me. Catch you later.

Date: 2006-04-09 08:47 am (UTC)Well - the ISBN I found, for those who like to know these things, is 1-86950-596-4; price $36.99 in NZ.
And I agree - it is very exciting. Now freak out all you like, but keep blowing the trumpet; this is going to be the best Alexander and Hephaistion novel since...well, since Renault (and that's not meant to be an insult).
And wish I could be there for an autographed copy and drunken read-through with champagne. *sigh*

Date: 2006-04-09 12:27 pm (UTC)I'm impressed on so many levels. Being about a month from submitting a manuscript of my own, I'm in awe of you. Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't HarperCollins only accept agented manuscripts? (Of course, if you got an agent first, the question is moot.) Or maybe they're nicer down there. Oh well, I'm sure your book will be the best Alexander historical fiction ever, and I'll be your fangirl :)

Date: 2006-04-10 03:17 am (UTC)Looking forward to getting my hands on a copy at the earliest. The thought of the first three-dimensional Hephaistion makes me break out in little giggles of joy .....
And don't panic! Start writing the next part of the trilogy - unless you've already done it! :)

Date: 2006-08-19 04:12 pm (UTC)Hope you don't mind me posting; I don't have an LJ at the moment but my friend Suesfan sent me the link. I don't expect you've come across me or my stories but I have read yours with great pleasure. Of all our ATG fic writers I find yours the most well researched and mature and probably the best written. All I really wanted to say was how very pleased I am for you about your published novel, which sounds like a dream come true. To get published at all is an incredible achievement and I can only imagine the amount of hard work and research you must have put in to one about Alexander. Be assured I have already placed my order!
I have to confess I've read or skimmed virtually every AtG novel in English from Marshall Monroe Kirkman and Alfred J Church to (oh dear) Nicastro and McLeod, and while they vary from the brilliant to the truly awful and downright offensive, I have yet to read one that concentrates so emphatically on Hephaestion as yours apparently will. This alone makes it something to be savoured! But more than that, from your stories we can at least know you have done your research, unlike some, fiction and non-fiction, who obviously did theirs on the back of a cereal packet. I have also admired your compassionate but relatively unsentimental attitude to Alexander and Hephaestion in your stories; so many fics, novels and histories seem to start from a very biased POV one way or another.
Sorry if I sound like I'm reviewing your book before I've read it, but once again, I want to say just how happy I am for you and how much I wish your book many glowing reviews and plenty of sales!
